Boehner: Solyndra Probe Will Be 'Relentless'

House Speaker John Boehner vows that Congress will be “relentless” in its probe into the role the Obama administration played in awarding solar energy firm Solyndra with $535 million in loan guarantees before it went bankrupt.
“They’re making the mistake that every White House makes — slow down the development of the documents, decide they’re not going to comply, redact the documents to no end,” Boehner tells Newsmax.TV in an exclusive interview.
“And all they’re going to do is drag this out.
“We are not going to turn our heads or turn a blind eye to what appears to be some incredibly horrible decisions. So the Congress will be relentless in our pursuit of the truth.
“All we want to do is get to the bottom of this. Because when we get to the bottom of it we provide the constitutional oversight that the Congress is there to provide. We teach our government lessons about what is doable and what isn’t doable.”
Boehner says he gets along with the president fine but admits that his relationship with Obama has been “frosty” in the last few weeks “as the president has decided to shirk his responsibilities to be a leader and gone out and decided to campaign full-time.
“It’s been a bit disappointing to me, and I haven’t talked with the president much during this period.”

Boehner: Obama Wrong on Defense of Marriage Act

Speaker of the House John Boehner is highly critical of President Barack Obama and his administration for failing to enforce the Defense of Marriage Act and rules against illegal immigration.
“What this boils down to is selective enforcement, which I don’t really think they have the right to do,” Boehner tells Newsmax.TV in an exclusive interview.
“In practice they can just look the other way. But this is not the way our government was intended to work. Our government is intended that Congress would pass the laws, the president would get to decide whether he wanted to sign them or veto them, and then we have the federal court system there to make sure that the Constitution is being followed and the law are being enforced.
“In the case of [the Defense of Marriage Act], I believe the Congress passed the law, President Clinton signed it into law, and just because President Obama and the justice Department don’t believe it’s constitutional they’re not going to support this law in the federal court system.
“So the Congress is taking the position that if the Justice Department won’t fight these claims against it, then Congress ought to fund for this. And we have in fact taken money from the Justice Department so that we can file these briefs on our own so that we can defend the work of Congress and the president.”

Boehner: Obama 'Over the Line' in Pressuring Israel

House Speaker John Boehner tells Newsmax that President Barack Obama should use more of the “tools” he has to pressure Iran on its nuclear program — and charges the administration with going “way over the line” in pressuring Israel.
“There’s no question that neither Israel, the United States nor any peace-loving people in the world want the Iranians to have nuclear weapons,” he said in an exclusive interview with Newsmax.TV.
“I think this is of great concern. A lot of effort has gone into providing sanctions, from the Europeans and the United States and others, to try to steer them away from this.
“We passed the Iran sanctions bill last year, giving the president more tools to put pressure on the Iranians. He has the toolbox. It’s time for him to begin using more of those tools in order to put more pressure on the Iranians.”
Asked if the administration has been adequately supporting Israel, Boehner responds: “I think the president could have been stronger in his support of Israel.
“I think they’ve put far too much pressure on the Israelis to come to an agreement with the Palestinians even though they’re supported by Hamas. I just think we’ve gone way over the line. Israel is our ally. They’ve been our friends for 60 years.
“When you look around that part of the world, it is the one ally we have, year in, year out, day in, day out. Frankly I think they should be treated better.”

Boehner: Obama 'Doesn't Understand' American Economy

President Barack Obama “doesn’t understand the country we live in,” Speaker of the House John Boehner tells Newsmax.TV in an exclusive interview.
Asked what he believes are Obama’s greatest assets and greatest liabilities, Boehner responds: “His greatest asset is that he’s a very smart guy, very well educated.
“In terms of the other side of the equation, the president’s never worked in the private sector. I don’t think he really understands how the American economy works, doesn’t understand the country that we live in and what makes it go.
“He’s got the belief that the government plays this giant role in our economy.
“But the president’s got a tough job. My job isn’t to make it more difficult. My job is to work with him to get things accomplished for the American people.
“While we may have very different ideas about what will help the American people, they still expect us to work together to find enough common ground to be able to move our economy forward.
